unisex

The unisex hymen was the first line of living hymens in The hymNext Project. Not prescribing to one gender, but addressing all genders, the unisex hymen represents the unity between the sexes and philosophically, between art and science.

Original hymen made of artist's vaginal (body) cells, bovine collagen and rodent aortic smooth muscle tissue. Final age: 1month. Dried size: 0.75". Preserved by dehydration.

Silver culture plate for cell growth. Pre-treated with poly-L-lysine for cell adhesion.

Exterior: beechwood, blue paint, silver leaf paint, silver appliques.

Interior: culture plate (inside lid), magnifying box, hymen, blue silk, LED lighting.
