Artist
Statement
Responding to the interaction between modern
and traditional cultures in society and in the laboratory, I look
to create artwork that develops from the junction between the
social and scientific realms. Communication on human and cellular
levels display commonalities worth exploring and comparing, particularly
in respect to employing emerging technology. These modes of communication
directly affect the proliferation or change of a culture –
a term referring to the situation of cells en vivo/in vitro or
a shared human belief system within a society. As an artist, I
position myself in the middle of this philosophical and technical
discussion to illustrate common ground or conflict.
Developed
art pieces are a conjuration of new symbols or are vehicles that
may continue to confront social issues. The viewing audience is
also considered an active participant in de-mystification of scientific “rituals” by getting hands-on experience with some
of the common tools of the laboratory in a setting that is intended
to accompany the finished works. |
